Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) kicked off the post-Kylian Mbappe era in style, sweeping the Ligue 1, UEFA Champions League, Trophee des Champions and Coupe de France titles.
While they dominated the domestic scene, European success remained elusive until last season. Sporting director Luis Campos worked his magic and assembled an exciting squad.
Luis Enrique arrived to galvanise the pieces into an unstoppable unit. The absence of Mbappe was supposed to be a burden, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
PSG found cohesion and fluidity. Throughout the season, they grew from strength to strength until they became a formidable force.
They eventually dismantled Inter Milan in the final to claim the Champions League.
However, Chelsea outclassed PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup final, revealing a chink in their armour that opponents will look to exploit, setting the stage for a challenging campaign.
Read on as we preview PSG’s 2025/26 season.
Paris Saint-Germain’s 2025/26 campaign promises plenty of drama, with key Ligue 1 fixtures spread across the season.
The champions open the season at Nantes (August 17) before hosting Angers in their first Parc des Princes outing a week later.
The first Le Classique arrives early, with a trip to Marseille on September 21 and the return fixture in Paris on February 8.
Fans can also look forward to capital-city derbies against Paris FC, who are back in the top flight after 46 years. The first is on January 4 at home, and the second is on May 16 to close the season.
Other standout games include visits to LOSC Lille (October 5-6), AS Monaco (late November) and Lyon (March 19-20).
PSG’s final run-in sees them take on Lorient and Brest at home before that season-ending Paris derby.
With such high-profile clashes dotted throughout the calendar, PSG’s path to another title will demand consistency from August through to their capital showdown in May.
Enrique has the unenviable task of keeping his warriors thirsty for more glory after their triumph last season. He needs to keep their standards high and their eyes on the prize.
PSG were accused of underrating Chelsea at the Club World Cup, and it led to a 3-0 loss in the United States. Enrique cannot afford such complacency from his players.
They need to press relentlessly, attack with the same ferocity, and defend with the same intensity they did last year to reap similar benefits.
On their day, not many teams can keep up with PSG, but it only works if Enrique can keep them on their toes.
The Spanish tactician must keep the squad believing in his methods, and they can rule France and Europe again.
A quadruple-winning team usually does not have many holes to fill, but Campos has set out to strengthen Enrique’s options ahead of next season.
With goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma delaying signing a new contract, PSG decided to act by acquiring France’s second-choice shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
Chevalier has proven his mettle in France, where he has been one of the most highly-regarded talents.
Following the exit of Milan Skriniar, PSG have tied a deal to sign Bournemouth centre-half Ilya Zabarnyi, who has been one of the more underrated Premier League defenders.
PSG are showing interest in playmaker Maghnes Akliouche after inexplicably letting Rayan Cherki slip as they look to add more creativity to their right flank.
They have all the tools to wreak havoc next season and will take some stopping.
PSG’s 2025/26 starting XI should remain largely familiar, with stability in defence and midfield.
The most significant change could come in goal, as Donnarumma is linked with a summer exit, paving the way for Chevalier to step in as the new number one.
Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes will continue to provide width from full-back, while captain Marquinhos partners Willian Pacho in central defence.
Midfield will feature Vitinha’s vital control alongside the creativity of Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves. The trio have formed one of the best engine rooms in football and can take the game to any team.
Desire Doue’s flair and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s directness will flank Ousmane Dembele, who remains the focal point up front.
This blend of pace, technical quality and experience ensures PSG maintain their fluid, high-tempo style.
Predicted XI:
Chevalier; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Vitinha, Ruiz, Neves; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia.
If PSG are to repeat their heroics, Ousmane Dembele will be the man leading the charge.
Enrique has a plethora of remarkable talents at his disposal, but Dembele is the main attraction.
The Frenchman is a shoo-in for the Ballon d’Or after his exploits and will be tasked with spearheading PSG’s title defences.
Dembele found his shooting boots in 2024/25, bagging 35 goals and 12 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.
He finished as the top scorer in Ligue 1 and will be determined to repeat the feat. Dembele thrived capably under the weight of expectations following Mbappe’s departure.
He became the fulcrum and the first line of defence, pressing with an urgency he has never shown before.
The 28-year-old has grown into a leader and managed to stamp out his propensity to go missing in the most significant games. He is a maverick, and PSG’s hopes will be on him next season.
PSG enter the 2025/26 season with the depth, balance and mentality to dominate domestically once again.
Enrique’s squad is stacked with match-winners across every line, and the tactical cohesion built last year shows no signs of fading.
Their rivals in Ligue 1 will struggle to match the Parisians’ relentless pace, defensive solidity and attacking variety throughout a gruelling campaign.
With Campos continuing to refresh the squad smartly, fatigue and complacency will be at bay.
The Trophee des Champions and Coupe de France will also remain firmly within their grasp, with PSG’s quality proving almost insurmountable for domestic opponents.
The only unknown lies in Europe, where the Champions League presents different pressures and finer margins.
This side has already shown it can conquer the continent. Back-to-back European glory is well within reach, and the treble of French trophies is theirs to lose.
Prediction: Champions.
