Leeds United Women begin their FA Women’s National League Cup campaign on Wednesday evening as they welcome West Yorkshire rivals Halifax Women to the Bannister Prentice Stadium.

The Calderdale outfit will be familiar opposition for Simon Wood’s side, with the two teams contesting the previous campaign’s West Riding County Cup Final.

Finishing level in normal time, goalkeeper Carrie Simpson was in inspired form on the afternoon, making a crucial save in the penalty shootout as the Whites lifted the trophy!

As well as hosting Halifax, Leeds will travel to Norton & Stockton Ancients and York City in Group U. Following the completion of the Group Stages, the 22 group winners along with the 10 best runners up will progress to the Cup Knockout Stage, with the remaining 12 runners up and 20 best third placed teams advancing to the Plate Knockout Stage.

United began their Division One North campaign at the weekend with a 1-1 draw against Chorley Women on home soil, despite Macy Ellis’ second-half strike.

Halifax, meanwhile, kicked off their Northern Premier Division fixtures with a 1-0 defeat away at Hull City Ladies.

Action from the Bannister Prentice Stadium gets underway at 7:45pm.
