Eintracht are at home to Gladbach on Saturday – a team they have met 100 times in the Bundesliga. The Eagles have made the better start to the season – will they come out on top this weekend?
The backdrop
The floodlights will be on and the TV cameras in attendance at Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday evening, when Eintracht Frankfurt take on Borussia Mönchengladbach (kick-off 18:30 CEST). The 2024/25 season is a mere three games old, with Eintracht currently sixth on six points, Mönchengladbach 13th with three points from one win. That win – a 2-0 success at Bochum on Matchday 2 – is the only one in their last nine Bundesliga matches going back to last season. Since mid-April, no team have picked up fewer points in the German top flight than the Foals.
The Eagles, meanwhile, have taken six points from three matches, making this their best start to a season since 2020/21. Looking back
A good omen ahead of this match for Frankfurt is that they have not lost to Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga in their last six meetings. Historically, the statistics are more balanced – the two teams have clashed 100 times, with 37 wins for Frankfurt, 30 draws and 33 victories for Borussia.
Keep tabs on Gladbach attack
Up front for Gladbach, Kevin Stöger has two assists this season, most recently with a header against VfB Stuttgart which set up Alassane Pléa for his first league goal of the season. The 31-year-old Frenchman also scored and assisted in the DFB Cup.
Despite the final scoreline (a 3-1 defeat to VfB), Stöger’s strike partner Tim Kleindienst looked lively and had four shots on goal, and he already has two goals and an assist to his name so far in this league campaign. Another one to keep an eye on is Franck Honorat, who has two goals and an assist across all competitions this season.
