Occasionally teams find a club that is developing players that are perfect their system.

A working relationship between the two is then established and an agreement where both parties benefit is worked out. One side gets the players they want and the other earns a fair price for them.

The most recent example with Liverpool has been Southampton, with players such as Sadio Mane, Virgil Van Dijk, Adam Lallana all moving from the Saints to the Reds.

Furthermore, it is not uncommon for a club to receive a number of loanees from another. Liverpool have a vast amount of academy talents and ensuring their careers develop at the correct pace is really important. Once an ideal loaning club is identified, the Reds rarely stray elsewhere.

But selling players to a club is often a rarity, although Richard Hughes has and Liverpool's former sporting directors seem to have found a way to work their magic to help raise transfer funds.

Brentford are happily taking players off Liverpool's hands

It was announced earlier this week that Coaimhin Kelleher would finally be getting the transfer away from the Reds that he so desired - an opportunity to become a team's No. 1, playing regular football.

He has joined is Brentford, who formally announced the transfer on Tuesday.

A fee of £12.5m was agreed, although £6m of add-ons and bonuses would take the agreement up to a potential £18m deal, which is still considered particularly cheap by many adoring Liverpool fans.

But a debt needed to be paid to Kelleher, who has been a perfect servant for the club over the years, despite constantly playing in Alisson's shadow. He's always delivered when we've needed him to.

As such, the return on him isn't really important. The deal was about getting the Irishman what he has desired for a long-time, appreciation at a club who will prioritise him.

However, the goalkeeper's transfer is not the only piece of business that Brentford have done with us.

Last season, Fabio Carvalho was taken off our hands by the Bees for £22.5m, with a further £5m attached in add-ons. The Portuguese winger wanted an opportunity to prove himself at the highest level and Liverpool couldn't meet his demands. As such, a move away was sanctioned.

Furthermore, Sepp Van Den Berg also moved from the Reds to Brentford last summer, this time for a fee of £20m and again with £5m extra in potential add-ons.

That takes the Bees' total spend at Liverpool to £55m, for players that were undoubtedly talented but whom the club were very happy to let go of. Brentford have done us a massive favour by taking them.

Of course, the allure of Premier League football has meant that the trio are all at a club where they can finally thrive, and so we can accept their transfers away with a clear conscience.

But securing £55m for a few fringe assets is a hell of a return and the new-found relationship with Brentford is something that Liverpool could utilise again if we can offer them an enticing proposition.
