Premier League referee David Coote has appeared to call Liverpool and their former manager Jurgen Klopp some unprintable names in a video making the rounds on social media.
It is unknown when the video was recorded, but Coote can be seen slamming the Anfield club and then telling the person behind the camera to ensure the clip does not get sent to anyone.
The official was on duty yesterday when Liverpool hosted Aston Villa yesterday, and his decision to wave play on after Leon Bailey pulled down Mohamed Salah before Darwin Nunez scored baffled many people.
It is unclear if the video is genuine, given the advancement of technology and artificial intelligence, but the PGMOL are aware of it and is now investigating.
Many Liverpool fans have claimed that Coote is a Manchester United fan, but that cannot be ascertained either.
Coote was on VAR duty during the Merseyside derby when Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford escaped a red card following a challenge which ruled Virgil van Dijk out of the rest of the season in 2020.
He was also the VAR last December when Martin Odegaard’s handball in the box was ignored when Liverpool took on Arsenal.
Both errors could have been mistakes on his part, but the investigation by the PGMOL will help put plenty of doubts to bed.
