Jack Grealish has now seen Manchester City engage in active discussions with one Premier League club over a potential temporary move away from the Etihad Stadium.
The 29-year-old’s future has been one of the defining stories of the summer, with his role under Pep Guardiola unclear following a stop-start 2024/25 campaign, after injuries, a loss of form, and growing competition for places leading to City being open to offers.
With just weeks remaining in the transfer window and the brand new Premier League side right around the corner, one top-flight side is now attempting to find a breakthrough.
Everton have previously been linked with Grealish but were reported to have distanced themselves from the move in July. However, a collapsed deal for Southampton’s Tyler Dibling and Grealish’s potential availability on revised terms may have reignited their interest.
Manager David Moyes is believed to be an admirer of Jack Grealish’s attacking profile and sees him as a transformative option in a key creative role. Manchester City, for their part, have made it clear they will not sanction a deal unless certain financial conditions are met.
Grealish remains one of the highest-paid players at the Etihad Stadium, and any loan exit would require wage contributions and guarantees over playing time – hurdles that could prove difficult for Everton or other interested sides.
However, according to the information of The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Everton are now in talks to sign Jack Grealish on a season-long loan, although the deal is insisted as ‘considered complicated’ and it is stressed that at this stage, there are no guarantees it will happen.
Grealish has also reportedly turned down interest from clubs abroad, with his clear preference being to stay in the Premier League and particularly north of England for personal reasons – perhaps making Everton a desirable destination.
From City’s perspective, they may not rush into a decision. Still, Everton’s emergence in formal talks signals the possibility of real movement in the coming weeks.
Whether they can overcome the obstacles to secure a deal remains to be seen, but for Grealish, a loan could provide the stage he needs to revive his best form and stake a claim for next summer’s England squad at the FIFA World Cup.
