Eintracht Frankfurt completed the signing of Ritsu Doan from Freiburg for €22m including bonuses on Wednesday evening, but the Hessen club had to fend off competition to sign the Japanese international. Bild report that both Everton and Nottingham Forest were vying to secure the transfer of Doan, who has since signed a five-year contract at Eintracht.
Doan dreamed of playing in the Champions League and now he’s got that opportunity at Eintracht Frankfurt. So much so that the 27-year-old also turned down an eleventh hour lucrative offer from an unnamed Saudi club, per Bild, after agreeing personal terms with his new club.
“I decided on Frankfurt months ago and told my advisors that,” said Doan, who also had interest from fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. Bild further adds that the Japan international will earn a base salary of over €2.5m which could rise to €5m should certain bonuses be met.
