There’s change at the top as Thursday’s Power Rankings return for the latest instalment.

📈 Power Rankings: Forest return, Liverpool lead again

10. Arsenal (No change)

It’s as you were for Arsenal who remain stuck in 10th in our Power Rankings table. The Gunners were not in action over the weekend, after an early FA Cup exit last month. Mikel Arteta took the team to Dubai for warm weather training but it was far from a pleasing break for the Spaniard. Kai Havertz’s torn hamstring means the German will miss the run-in.

Newcastle United surge back into our Power Rankings table. Eddie Howe’s side booked their place in the Carabao Cup final last week before securing FA Cup progress at the weekend. The Magpies overcame League One leaders Birmingham City in a classic cup tie, with Joe Willock on target twice. The sweet feeling of elusive silverware is edging ever closer.

8. Bayer Leverkusen (👎 Last week: 6)

Is Bayer Leverkusen’s grip on the Bundesliga loosening?

Xabi Alonso’s side were held goalless at Wolfsburg at the weekend to fall eight points adrift of Bayern Munich in the title race. After last season’s incredible Invincible campaign, Leverkusen have failed to hit the same heights this time around. The German champions are down, if not out.

Up next: Bayern Munich (H).

7. Inter Milan (👎 Last week: 5)

Inter Milan are fallers for the second successive week, after an up-and-down few days for the Nerazzurri. The rearrangement of their postponed clash with Fiorentina meant Simone Inzaghi’s side took on La Viola in successive games.

The first ended disastrously. Moise Kean scored twice as Fiorentina blew open the title  race with a 3-0 win over the champions. Back at the San Siro just days later, Inter righted those wrongs courtesy of Marko Arnautovic’s winner. It leaves the Scudetto chase perfectly poised with just a point between Inter and leaders Napoli.

6. Barcelona (👍 Last week: 8)

“If someone thought we were dead in La Liga, well, tell them that we’re still very much alive,” Inigo Martinez said after Barcelona’s 5-0 win over Valencia this week.

“We have ambition; we want to make it happen.”

The Catalans climbed back into the title race with a five-star performance at The Mestalla, capitalising on the draw between title rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid to make up ground. A 4-1 win at Sevilla followed, with Barcelona back within two points of the top.

5. Bayern Munich (👍 Last week: 7)

Bayern Munich extended their advantage in the Bundesliga title race with a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen. Harry Kane converted twice from the spot as Bayern scored three second-half goals in a routine win. In midweek, the Bavarians bested a stubborn Celtic to take a 2-1 lead in their Champions League play-off. Vincent Kompany’s men are quietly going about their business this season.

4. Atletico Madrid (👎 Last week: 2)

A harsh fall, but wins elsewhere mean Atletico take a tumble. Diego Simeone’s side battled to a point at Real Madrid in their capital derby at the weekend, where the stakes were high as both teams chase the title.

3. Liverpool (👎 Last week: 1)

Liverpool lose top spot in our Power Rankings table and fall to third. A frustrating week for Arne Slot saw his side dumped out the FA Cup in a shock exit, before the setback of conceding an injury-time equaliser at Everton.

The Reds’ rotated for the trip to Plymouth at the weekend and lost 1-0 at Home Park. It was a shock result as the Championship strugglers knocked out the Premier League leaders.

In midweek, an engrossing Merseyside Derby ended all square. James Tarkowski’s thumping effort in stoppage time rescued a result for Everton.

2. Real Madrid (👍 Last week: 4)

Real Madrid rise after a positive week for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

A stalemate with Atletico Madrid leaves Los Blancos top of La Liga, even if the title race has tightened up significantly. In Europe, Real Madrid did what Real Madrid do. Despite not being at their best, the Spaniards recovered to beat Manchester City at the Etihad.

Trailing 2-1 in the 86th minute, goals from Brahim Diaz and Jude Bellingham snatched a first-leg lead in Manchester.

1. Paris Saint-Germain (👍 Last week: 3)

Paris Saint-Germain take top spot in the Power Rankings table for the first time this season.

The French champions are in fine form and dispatched AS Monaco (Ligue 1) and Brest (Champions League) in successive fixtures.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored his first PSG goal in the former win, with Ousmane Dembele on target twice. Another brace from Dembele secured a comfortable European win at Brest and extended the winger’s astonishing record to 18 goals in his last 11 games. There’s not a player in Europe in better form right now.
