Curtis Jones, Aboudlaye Doucoure, Liverpool boss Arne Slot and his assistant manager were all sent off in the aftermath of Everton’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool thought they had secured a 2-1 win in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park but James Tarkowski struck a spectacular stoppage-time volley to secure a point for David Moyes’ men.

The Toffees had taken an early lead through Beto before goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mo Salah put the Premier League leaders in front.

But Tarkowski’s late equaliser, given after a lengthy VAR check, ensured the points were split.

The drama did not stop there, however, with a post-match melee ensuing after the final whistle had been blown by referee Michael Oliver.

Jones appeared to take exception to Doucoure’s celebrations in front of the away end, resulting in the two players coming together and several other players as well as the stadium security getting involved to try and break it up.

Oliver responded by showing Jones a second yellow card for his reaction.

He then opted to show a second yellow card to Doucoure, with the midfielder having already been booked during the game.

And there was time for two more red cards before both sets of teams left the pitch, with Oliver sending off Slot for something the Liverpool manager said to the referee.

Slot’s assistant Sipke Hulshoff was also sent off.

The draw means Liverpool move a point further ahead of Arsenal in second, but both sides have now played the same amount of games.

Everton’s resurgence under returning boss David Moyes continues, meanwhile, with the Toffees having won three of the last four games in the league.

Next up for Liverpool is a clash with Wolves at Anfield on Sunday.

Everton, meanwhile, travel to Crystal Palace looking to continue their strong run of form in the league.
