Portugal will aim to overturn a one-goal deficit this evening in the second leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final with Denmark.
Roberto Martinez’s side lost 1-0 in Copenhagen last week and are up against it in the return tonight. Rasmus Hojliund’s late goal handed Denmark the advantage, after Christian Eriksen had missed a first-half penalty for the home side.
The inaugural winners of the tournament in 2019, Portugal are bidding to become the first European team to win the Nations League twice. However, the loss in Denmark continued an unconvincing recent run with just one win in their last four fixtures.
Roberto Martinez has no fresh injury concerns heading into the return and could name an unchanged side.
Cristiano Ronaldo failed to find the target in Copenhagen but Portugal’s record scorer is expected to lead the line once again. Diogo Jota and Goncalo Ramos offer alternatives – or potential partners – to the captain.
Bernardo Silva came off the bench last week to earn his 99th cap. The Manchester City midfielder will hope to make his 100th appearance for the national team from the start tonight.
Portugal predicted XI: D Costa; Dalot, Dias, Veiga, Mendes; Vitinha, Neves; Neto, Fernandes, Leao; Ronaldo
