Abu Kamara spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Portsmouth before signing for Hull City
Portsmouth are still hoping to secure a deal to bring Abu Kamara back to the club amid uncertainty over his Hull City future.
According to Darren Witcoop, Pompey like the winger and they could yet make a move to sign him before the window shuts on 1 September.
Kamara spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Fratton Park from Norwich City, playing a key role in helping the club gain promotion to the Championship.
But he made the switch to the Tigers last summer after making the permanent departure from Carrow Road.
It has been claimed that Hull are battling to keep hold of multiple players in the final weeks of the transfer market, including Kamara.
Manager John Mousinho admitted earlier this summer that the Hampshire outfit would have signed the forward last summer but they were unable to afford Norwich’s asking price.
It has now been reported that Portsmouth are still keen on the 22-year-old, who made 36 appearances in the second division for the Tigers last season.
It remains to be seen whether Hull can be convinced to part ways with Kamara before the window shuts, with the player featuring on Saturday in the club’s opening fixture of the new season.
He played 79 minutes as Sergej Jakirovic’s side earned a 0-0 draw away to Coventry City.
Kamara spent one season on loan at Fratton Park, but cemented himself as a fan favourite in that time.
The forward contributed eight goals and 10 assists in League One, playing a key role in helping Mousinho’s side earn promotion to the Championship.
Pompey also clinched the third division title on their way to the second tier, which led to him earning a move to Hull in 2024.
Next up for Portsmouth in the league is a home clash against Kamara’s former side Norwich on 16 August.
Kamara performed quite well under Mousinho in League One, and he proved his Championship credentials last season as well.
If Pompey can convince Hull to part ways with the player, then it could be good business by the club.
Kamara knows Fratton Park and most of the players, so should be able to make a smooth transition back into the fold, so could go straight into the side.
He also contributed five goals and three assists in the league last season, which is the kind of added firepower Portsmouth will want.
