Portsmouth are currently away at a pre-season training camp in Slovakia
Portsmouth have former Crystal Palace and West Brom player Nathan Ferguson on trial during their pre-season tour of Slovakia.
According to Andrew Moon, the Championship side have two players on trial while preparing for the new campaign.
John Mousinho will be keen to bolster his first team squad this summer after leading Pompey to a 17th place finish in their return to the second division last year.
Portsmouth are currently in Slovakia as part of their pre-season training camp, however they will not be playing in any friendlies during their time in the country.
Ferguson is currently one of two players on trial with Portsmouth ahead of a potential move this summer.
The full-back is without a club at the moment, and will be free to sign a deal with Pompey if they want to pursue a contract offer.
The 24-year-old spent last season out of action having departed Crystal Palace in June 2024.
Injuries have hampered his progress in recent years, limiting him to just one league appearance during his time with the Eagles, having joined in 2020 from West Brom.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth are also reportedly casting their eyes on goalkeeper Stuart Moore as the second player on trial in Slovakia.
It remains to be seen whether a concrete contract offer will arrive as a result of these trials.
Portsmouth have made one signing so far this summer, bringing in Adrian Segecic from Sydney FC in the A-League.
Mousinho will be keen for further improvements to be made in the squad, with the club looking to push on from their 17th place finish last season.
Pompey will get their upcoming campaign underway on 9 August with a trip to face Oxford United in a 3pm kick-off.
Ferguson showed a lot of potential before injuries really set his career back in recent years.
The full-back had earned a move to the Premier League with Palace off the back of his performances in the Championship with West Brom.
If he can prove his fitness levels, then it might be worth taking a risk and seeing if he can return to that level again in the future, especially as he is a free agent.
A paid-per-appearance contract might be a smart move if he impresses in Slovakia, as that will mitigate most of the risk for Portsmouth, and will give Ferguson a chance to prove that he is ready for a return to football.
