Gabriel’s towering header marks the difference as Arsenal prevail in a fiery North London derby.
The home crowd anticipated a reversal in fortune for Tottenham ahead of the derby considering their recent underwhelming record versus Arsenal but they were left frustrated as the Gunners took all three points yet again.
Spurs started the game on the front foot, dominating possession and creating the majority of the chances. However, Mikel Arteta’s men rode the pressure well and a few crucial saves from goalkeeper David Raya kept his clean sheet intact. The match ended with eight yellow cards, out of which seven came in the first half.
Tottenham could not sustain their momentum in the second half and Arsenal capitalised on one of the few chances from this dogged encounter in the 64th-minute. The Gunners showed their set-piece prowess once again as Gabriel Magalhaes moved away from his marker Cristian Romero swiftly inside the box and headed home Bukayo Saka’s pinpoint corner to hand the visitors the lead.
With this victory, Arsenal have now won three consecutive North London derbies for the first time since September 1988.
