This Thursday could be another historic evening in the history of Celtic FC Women, with the Ghirls currently just 90 minutes away from booking a spot in the Champions League group stages.

Elena Sadiku’s side hold a 1-0 lead over Vorskla Poltava afer Sunday’s first leg tie thanks to an early strike from Murphy Agnew, and the Hoops are confident ahead of the second leg at the Albert Bartlett Stadium.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the first match, the Hoops' manager said her side should already be out of sight in the tie, but she insists her focus is now all on the second leg.

She said: “I think if you look at the game, it could have ended 5-1. So hopefully we can get out of this very confident, which I am.

“Now it’s just about recovery and focusing on the second half of this tie. We are one step closer now. It's obviously myself and the staff’s job is to make sure that we know exactly what to do.”

Celtic cruised past KuPS and Gintra in round one of the competition, and the Ghirls have it in their sights to make history again by reaching the group stages for the first time in the club’s history.

And the Celtic boss is determined to be standing among Europe’s elite come the final whistle on Thursday.

“We know how to fix the mistakes that we had yesterday, and make it clearer,” she said.

“Now we just need to be even better for the second leg, and hopefully we can get the job done and qualify for the group stages.”
