Milan star Rafael Leao has written an emotional tribute to his boss Stefano Pioli, who is set to take charge of the Rossoneri for the final time on Saturday evening when his side play out their final Serie A game of the season against Salernitana.

Milan confirmed on Friday morning that Pioli will leave his post upon the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. He had been in charge for five seasons, and was at the helm when the team won their first Scudetto in 11 years back in 2021-22.

Leao was voted as the Serie A MVP for that season, having chipped in with 11 goals and 10 assists from 34 league matches that year.

The club themselves have already released a short tribute to the departing Pioli; plenty of supporters have sent their best online as well, and now some of the players are beginning to release their own statements on social media.

In a brief message published on Instagram and X, Leao wrote: “Thank you for everything, Mister. After 12 years, you brought massive joy to all Milan fans, and as a result, your name has been written in the history books.

“Thank you for helping me to get my name among the footballing elite, and for helping me find my place at this great club. I will always be grateful.”
