Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia is a league winner with loan club PSV Eindhoven!
Malacia joined PSV on loan during the winter transfer window, in search of regular playing time. He had just returned to action following 17 months out with injury issues and struggled to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans.
United’s signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce only made it more obvious that Malacia would struggle for minutes, so a decision was made to send him out on loan to PSV.
PSV emerged as a late contender to take the Dutchman after talks with Benfica collapsed.
Malacia has played a few matches for PSV but certainly not as much as he would have hoped. He has made eight Eredivisie appearances.
Across all competitions for PSV, the 25-year-old has featured 12 times. It’s worth noting that most of these have come as a substitute.
Nevertheless, Malacia and his PSV teammates had plenty to celebrate on Sunday as they were crowned champions of the Dutch Eredivisie for the 26th time after beating Sparta Rotterdam.
PSV have managed to retain the title, also having won it in 2023/24 after winning 29 of their 34 top-flight matches and only losing once.
This year, PSV became champions in dramatic fashion, with rivals Ajax wasting a nine-point lead, in a dramatic late-season collapse.
After a 2-0 win over PSV in Eindhoven at the end of March, Ajax managed just three victories in their final eight league matches.
Although they finished the season with a 3-1 win over FC Twente, they squandered a crucial lead in the 99th minute against FC Groningen in their penultimate game, ultimately missing a golden opportunity to secure a record-extending 37th league title.
Malacia posted a picture of himself and Noa Lang celebrating their title triumph.
A host of United partners congratulated Malacia, including Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee.
It remains to be seen whether PSV make Malacia’s signing a permanent one or return him to United. If it’s the latter, then the Red Devils will almost certainly make him available for sale in the upcoming transfer window.
