Pedulla states Sarri is ‘waiting’ for an Italian offer with foreign Fonseca replacement ‘unlikely’ | OneFootball

Maurizio Sarri is believed to be one of the leading candidates for the AC Milan job if Paulo Fonseca is sacked, and today, Alfredo Pedulla has spoken of the chances of the move.

When Stefano Pioli was sacked, Sarri was linked to being his replacement, albeit that was all the talk ever was – links. However, with Fonseca’s job hanging in the balance, the possibilities of him leading Milan are being spoken about once more.

The Rossoneri have started the season poorly, but things can be salvaged under the right coach, and discussions began as early as Tuesday night about the possibility of sacking the current head coach. Since then, reports have offered multiple conclusions from the meeting, even suggesting that a decision has been made, but it seems Fonseca should at least be in charge for the Derby della Madonnina.

When speaking to Sportitalia (via Milan News), Pedulla commented on Sarri’s current ideals, and also Milan’s chances of bringing him to the club.

“There have never been contacts with Roma, the Giallorossi had made different choices. At the moment Sarri has said no to two proposals he received from abroad because he is waiting for an offer from Italy, Milan in the lead.

“I believe he could be a candidate for the Rossoneri’s bench should the derby go wrong for Fonseca on Sunday night. We said it last week that the three games against Venezia, Liverpool and Inter would be crucial and decisive for Fonseca,”  he stated.

“Sarri came close to signing AC Milan twice: the first time with Galliani, the second time before Atalanta-Milan when he was supposed to go to the headquarters the next day to sign the contract, Maldini was still there. Then Milan won 2-0 and went into the Champions League. If he hadn’t won that match, Pioli would no longer have been the AC Milan coach.

“I’m not talking about contacts, but it’s a waiting phase. There are also other candidates, and it is unlikely a foreign coach will arrive. There is a substantial difference with Allegri regarding the way of playing and some internal relations. Allegri we cannot keep him off this list, but the wait for Sarri is linked to the fact that after the derby something important could happen that could involve him.”
