Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes has lambasted current attacker Alejandro Garnacho.

The Red Devils marched into the final of the Europa League by crushing Athletic Club 4-1 on the night and 7-1 on aggregate.

Mason Mount was the hero with two extremely well-taken goals as United ultimately eased into the final.

Nonetheless, this was not the whole story of the match. The home fans had to sweat as they were 0-1 down in the game until after the 70th minute.

Part of the reason for this was the erratic finishing of the forward line, especially in the first half.

Alejandro Garnacho was especially guilty, as he missed two clear one-on-one opportunities to put the game to bed in the first half.

Speaking on TNT Sports (via GIVEMESPORT) Scholes lambasted Garnacho’s composure in the final third.

Referencing the Argentine’s two missed chances he stated, “I’ve never seen Garnacho score a goal like this. He’s not a player with that sort of guile for me.”

He went on to explain what he should have done and claimed, “the pace he’s got there, he’s just got to go round the goalkeeper. There’s an acre of space there to the right-hand side of him, the ‘keeper will never get anywhere near him, just hit it into an empty net.”

The United legend did praise Garnacho’s pace and ability to get into dangerous positions but ultimately took aim at his decision making.

He opined, “sometimes, or a lot of the time, he makes the wrong decision. I think he’s done that there.”

Garnacho has had his most productive season of his senior career with 21 goals and assists and he is only 20 years old.

Nonetheless, he has missed countless clear-cut chances this season. This shows how well he gets himself into goalscoring positions and so if he were to become more clinical, it is easy to see that goal tally doubling or even better next season.
