West Ham gave their fans an early Christmas present after beating Manchester United 2-0 at the London Stadium.
Goals from Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus were enough to seal the three points and pile more misery on United boss Erik ten Hag.
Here’s what we made of the action from the London Stadium.
West Ham didn’t play some of the best football today. Their performance in the first half was questionable and at times they didn’t seem at it.
But when the chances came, the front three gobbled them up. It’s safe to say the Hammers’ forwards have been in inspired form this season.
Bowen notched his 11th Premier League goal of the season against the Red Devils meaning he is joint second with Mohamed Salah and second only to Erling Haaland who sits on 14.
Kudus scored his sixth goal since signing from Ajax in the summer after pouncing on a mistake from Kobbie Mainoo and both goals were set up by Brazilian magnifico Lucas Paquetá.
The 26-year-old has set up West Ham’s last five Premier League goals.
The way things are going, David Moyes is going to have a very hard time keeping his front three together for next season.
Things just continue to worsen for Manchester United and Erik ten Hag.
The team looked flat and uninspiring and when West Ham took the lead, they had nothing to throw back at them.
Alejandro Garnacho was a bright spark for United when they had the occasional attack but even he should have produced better with the chances he fashioned.
19-year-old youngster Willy Kambwala did well to start for his Premier League debut and Mainoo was fairing well until his lapse in concentration gifted West Ham their second.
In fairness to them, a club of United’s stature should not be having to rely on teenagers.
Ten Hag’s men made some unwanted history in their defeat at the London Stadium. The loss was their 13th of the season which is the most the club have recorded before Christmas since 1930.
It is also the first time since 1992 that United have gone four games without a goal….not great.
With third place Aston Villa visiting on Boxing day, it could well be a Christmas to forget for the United faithful.
The win sees West Ham temporarily rise to sixth in the league depending on the outcomes of Newcastle United’s trip to Kenilworth Road, but Moyes will no doubt be eyeing another put for the European places.
The club are currently in their third successive season in Europe after finishing 6th, 7th and winning the Europa Conference League last season.
With the front line firing on all cylinders and some potential depth added in January, another top seven finish is well within the Hammers grasp.
Granted they will be dealt a huge blow with Mohammed Kudus, Saïd Benrahma, Nayef Aguerd and Maxwel Cornet all set to represent their countries in the African Cup of Nations but if they can bring in some extra fire power to cover, then there is no reason why it can’t happen.
