The end is nigh for Ten Hag

Erik ten Hag has been on borrowed time at Manchester United but this result might just be the tipping point.

The four-goal hammering by Palace marked the club's record 13th season defeat in a Premier League season.

An 18th in all competitions also marks the worst return by any Red Devils team since the 1977/78, over 46 years ago.

It wasn't simply the score line in south London which will be the Dutchman's undoing but the manner of the defeat.

One manager famously received his cards at Old Trafford after a hefty loss to Palace and Ten Hag looks set to follow.

Glasner all over

Abject though United were, Palace deserve huge credit for this early crowning moment in Oliver Glasner's reign.

Many eyebrows were raised when the Austrian replaced Roy Hodgson in January with the club facing growing fan unrest.

But the Eagles have steadily risen under Glasner and could easily have racked up more goals as the game progressed.

Eberechi Eze's return to the starting line-up proved a catalyst and allowed Michael Olise to take centre-stage.

Glasner already showed with Eintracht Frankfurt how to push the boundaries and he's doing the same in the Premier League.

No country for old men

Mounting injuries forced Ten Hag into his 14th different centre-back pairing as midfielder Casemiro partnered Jonny Evans.

At a combined age of 68, their evergreen status was exposed by verve as both were caught cold for three of the hosts' goals.

Jean-Philippe Mateta sidestepped Evans while Casemiro was planted by Michael Olise and easily dispossessed by Daniel Muñoz.

The Brazilian enforcer's night became an even more forgettable affair after seeing potential goals in either halves disallowed.

Experience is often an invaluable asset but it exposed their increasing limitations for the 20-time English champions.
