Osasuna manager Alessio Lisci shared his thoughts after his team’s narrow 0-1 loss to Real Madrid, where a controversial penalty decided the match.

The decisive moment came in the first half when referee Adrian Cordero Vega pointed to the spot after Kylian Mbappe went down inside the box following a challenge with Juan Cruz.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Lisci admitted that his first impression was that the penalty was clear. However, after reviewing the images, he suggested that it may have been Mbappe who initiated the contact.

“The team played well, but we’ll have to see if it was a penalty or not. It seemed very clear to me live, but then we’ll have to see if it was Mbappe who stepped on Juan or the other way around.

“To me, it seems like Mbappe stepped on Juan and then Juan kicked him. We had to see it. Live, I think it’s normal for the referee to have called a penalty, but we’d have to see it,” he explained as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

The French star converted the spot-kick, scoring the only goal of the game and handing Madrid all three points at El Sadar.

Osasuna fans express frustration online

The decision sparked strong reactions from Osasuna players and supporters, who felt the call was harsh.

Many argued that Juan Cruz was unfairly penalised, as replays suggested Mbappé may have been the one to step on him first.

To underline their frustration, Osasuna’s official account on social media platform X posted images of the incident, accompanied by a monocle emoji, hinting at doubt over the referee’s decision.

The post quickly gained traction, with fans echoing Lisci’s concerns about whether the penalty should have stood.

Despite the controversy, Lisci praised his side’s overall performance, noting that Osasuna matched Madrid in intensity but were undone by a single moment.

Still, the debate around the penalty is likely to continue, with many pointing out the fine margins that defined the result.
