Fraser Forster is out of contract at Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season and will be free to speak to foreign clubs from January 2025.

Forster joined Tottenham in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer after leaving Southampton.

The goalkeeper will become a free agent in a matter of months, but not if Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy gets proactive now and hands him a new deal.

With Guglielmo Vicario injured at the moment, Forster has stepped in his place and has stepped up his game.

The 36-year-old is the second-choice goalkeeper for Tottenham, but he has done well in recent games in the absence of Vicario.

The English goalkeeper played well against Rangers at Ibrox in the UEFA Europa League and kept a clean sheet against his former club Southampton in the Premier League. Forster’s performance in goal against Chelsea in the 4-3 defeat for Tottenham impressed talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor.

When Vicario is back from injury, the Italian will return to Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou’s starting line-up. Forster will be relegated to the bench.

The former Celtic goalkeeper is aware of that, and if he is happy to play second-fiddle to Vicario, then Spurs should not hesitate to hand him a new contract and keep him at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Vicario is 28 now and is at the top of his game. Tottenham are not going to sell him anytime soon.

Forster is 36, and his wages of £75,000 per week (Spotrac) are modest enough for a club like Tottenham to continue to pay for another year or two.

Levy is not going to get too many goalkeepers with Premier League experience who will be happy to sit on the bench but still be able to make an impact when called upon on short notice.

Forster is one of the better back-up goalkeepers in the Premier League, and Tottenham should hang onto him.
