Manchester City’s primary attacking target for the ongoing January transfer window, Omar Marmoush has discussed growing speculation over his future.
The Egypt international has seemingly emerged as the Premier League champions’ go-to forward target for the ongoing transfer market, despite an awareness that a deal will be difficult to agree at the midway stage of the season.
Marmoush is an integral part of Eintracht Frankfurt’s set-up and is continuing to play a key role in the Bundesliga side’s lofty ambitions this season, currently ranking third in the German top-flight with hopes of UEFA Champions League football for 2025/26.
The current belief in various quarters is that Manchester City would need to sanction a significant price tag in order to tempt Frankfurt into a sale of arguably their best attacking player, with some reports pointing towards a figure in excess of £50 million.
However, all of the ongoing talk around a potential blockbuster move to the home of the Premier League champions is seemingly not affecting the player himself, who remains solely focussed on the task at hand on the pitch this season.
Speaking last week, Omar Marmoush directly addressed growing transfer speculation concerning his future within the game, whilst not directly mentioning the ongoing situation surrounding City.
“Of course you hear about it in passing,” the Egypt international admitted. “I’m honoured that people are talking about me. It shows that I’m doing a good job. But on a day-to-day basis, I don’t think about it at all.”
The 25-year-old continued, “My focus is on Eintracht Frankfurt and being successful here. There is always a lot of speculation from the outside. But I don’t have a specific dream destination.
“What I can promise the fans is that I will give my all for Eintracht in every game. I’m not thinking about a transfer. I’m living in the here and now and enjoying my time in Frankfurt.”
As for the word from within Manchester City, manager Pep Guardiola has remained tight-lipped on specific targets and has also issued comments of uncertainty as to whether his colleagues within the club will be able to complete any transfer business at all this month.
With that being said, Guardiola has also insisted that he may require help from his colleagues via the transfer window, with injury and fitness problems continuing to create selection problems for him and his coaching staff this season.
Speaking during his most-recent media activities, Guardiola explained on the January window, “I don’t know right now. It’s not easy, it will not be easy. Maybe we’ll sign, or maybe we don’t sign anyone. So I think the club has to be wise, don’t do it for doing it, just to add players.
“Of course for the situation that we have and from the perspective of the players that have had consistent injuries for many, many, many times, of course the club has to do it. But I don’t know if it will be possible.”
