Defensive errors saw Wolves concede three goals against Crystal Palace in their final home game of the season.

Gary O’Neil made some changes to the team that was defeated 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium, Tommy Doyle returned to the match day squad and Wesley Okoduwa was replaced. Matt Doherty came in to replace Hugo Bueno.

Jose Sa, originally, was named in the starting line-up for Wolves but was withdrawn due to illness and Dan Bentley came in to replace the Portuguese international, Tom King was then named a substitute on the bench.

Michael Olise opened the scoring for the visitors and Jean-Phillipe Mateta doubled their advantage just two minutes later, Wolves hit back through Matheus Cunha in the seond half, but Eberechi Eze’s individual brilliance restored their two goal advantage.

The Old Gold started with intent and moved the ball nicely, but due to Wolves giving the ball away in midfield, Eze had a huge chance to give the visitors the lead but his shot fizzled wide from close range.

In the 26th minute Olise opened the scoring, the Frenchman cut inside onto his left foot and curled the ball into the far corner outside the area.

Wolves hadn’t recovered from the set back and Palace pounced when they worked the ball down the right side and offered Nathaniel Clyne a chance on goal, his effort hit the woodwork but fell right into the path of Mateta, who smashed the ball into an empty net.

Wolves attempted to fight back before half-time, Doherty hit the crossbar following a dangerous Rayan Ait-Nouri cross.

After the break Wolves made a change, with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde coming on for Boubacour Traore.

Bellegarde proved his worth instantly when he linked up with Cunha, who forced Henderson into action early on.

Wolves got their reward in the 66th minute, Matheus Cunha netted his 12th Premier League goal to eat into the Eagles lead.

The Molineux crowd reacted to the goal and so did the players, a wonderful team move was inches away from Hwang Hee-Chan’s foot who looked bound to score, but Clyne denied the South Korean when he got to the ball first.

Palace re-gained their two goal advantage in the 73rd minute, Eze beat the offside trap and skipped passed Bentley to tap the ball home into an empty net.

12 minutes later, Wolves had been gifted a penalty and Glasner’s team were down to ten men when Ahamada was sent off, however a VAR check ensured the foul was outside the box therefore a free kick was awarded.

Wolves continued to fight but could not dig out the result they wanted, and now travel to Anfield on Sunday May 19 to face Liverpool in Jurgen Klopp’s final game as Liverpool manager.

Crystal Palace will face West Ham United at Selhurst Park, also on May 19.
