OGC Nice have suffered a blow ahead of their UEFA Champions League qualifier against SL Benfica on Wednesday. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, the club’s sporting director, Florian Maurice, confirmed that Evann Guessand would be ruled out of the encounter with a knee issue.
Maurice was speaking at the presentation of Kojo Oppong. He revealed that Guessand was suffering from “knee pain”, which would rule him out of the tie against Benfica. However, with the Nice academy product expected to depart before the end of the transfer window, the sporting director did, nonetheless, add that the striker would be utilised, if fit.
Franck Haise has said that Guessand is “90%” certain to leave Les Aiglons this summer. The club accepted a €35m offer from Neom SC, who have since rescinded their bid, following the player’s refusal to make the move. Crystal Palace have also submitted a bid, but it falls way short of Nice’s €30m valuation.
