OGC Nice priced Jonathan Clauss (32) out of a move to Bayer Leverkusen. Initially, the club were demanding a €20m fee for the 32-year-old, whose deal is up at the end of the season.
Nice then lowered that asking price to €15m, however, by that time, Lucas Vazquez was already undergoing his medical ahead of a move to the Bundesliga side. Clauss had wanted to leave Le Gym, as confirmed by Franck Haise last week. Officially out due to a minor ankle injury last weekend, he will now be expected to return to the fold.
Having fought off Bayer Leverkusen’s advances, Nice are now looking to tie Clauss down to a new deal, L’Équipe understands. Whilst the France international’s deal expires at the end of the season, a one-year extension will be triggered, should he play a certain number of games.
For now, however, Clauss’ entourage are not open to extending at Nice. The recent episode involving Bayer Leverkusen is cited as the reason for this reticence to engage in talks.
