Atalanta have announced the signing of Odilon Kossounou from Bayer Leverkusen on a permanent basis. The Ivorian defender joins the Serie A side for a reported €23m following a successful loan spell which included 23 appearances across all competitions.

Kossounou – who had one year remaining on his contract at Leverkusen – was praised by B04 sporting director Simon Rolfes upon his departure: “Odilon was an important factor in our team in the most successful year in the club’s history. We are happy he has settled in so well at Atalanta and we wish him all the best for the future.”

After winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast, Kossounou went on to win the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal titles in what was an unbeaten domestic campaign for Bayer Leverkusen, who also went on to the Europa League final, losing in Dublin against Atalanta.

During his time at Bayer Leverkusen, Kossounou played 102 games across all competitions.
