Manchester United have confirmed that starlets Chido Obi and Tyler Fredricson have been handed new shirt numbers ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 season.

New number for Obi

Since his arrival at United from Arsenal in November last year, Obi has experienced a dramatic rise at United.

Such was his impact at youth level that he was hurriedly promoted to the first team and soon made his senior debut when he came on as a late substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.

Obi went on to make eight first-team appearances for United before the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign.

He grabbed his first goals for the Red Devils in the post-season tour, when he struck a second-half brace in the 3-1 comeback victory over Hong Kong.

The 17-year-old also had a good tournament with Denmark’s U20 side at the Maurice Revello Tournament over the summer.

Ruben Amorim has repeatedly spoken glowingly of Obi and his potential and now, the club has announced that he has been assigned the number 32 shirt after previously wearing number 56. It’s a big hint that he could be tasked with more responsibilities moving forward.

Fredricson also given new kit number

Obi has been joined by Fredricson as the latest player to get a new squad number.

Like Obi, Fredricson made his United bow last term, in a narrow defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Despite being on the losing side, he produced an accomplished performance, highlighted by calm and composure, especially when playing out from the back.

He started another game soon after that – the away game at Brentford.

After previously donning number 55, Fredricson will now have the number 33 on the back of his shirt.

Obi and Fredricson are all but certain to be included in the squad for the pre-season tour of the United States later this month, with both now seen as fully established first-team players.
