Inter have officially announced the signing of Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji on loan with the Swiss international joining on loan with an option to buy, that becomes an obligation under certain conditions.

Reports from multiple sources claim that the potential cost of the deal could be up to €16 million, on an initial loan worth a reported €1 million. There is also an option to buy the player set at €15 million, which Sky report will become an obligation only if Inter win the Scudetto.

The Swiss defender joins the Nerazzurri as French defender Benjamin Pavard looks set to complete a move to join Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi at Marseille.

The deal has been confirmed after Inter registered the player’s contract with the league, as can be seen on Serie A’s official website.

Inter add experienced head with Akanji

With the arrival of Akanji, Inter are adding an experienced winner to their squad. Since signing for Manchester City in 2022, the Swiss international has won the Premier League twice, the Champions League and the FA Cup twice, alongside a number of other honours.

The 30-year-old, who has 71 caps for the Swiss national team, was also named in the Euro 2024 team of the tournament.
