Heading into their sixth season in Ligue 2, Amiens SC are adding some experience between the sticks.
On Wednesday, the club announced they had officially signed veteran goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni (28) to a new contract.
The 28-year-old has over 300 professional appearances, notably helping Troyes win Ligue 2 in 2014-15. He was also named the Goalkeeper of the Year in that competition in 2017-18, keeping 14 clean sheets during a loan spell at Clermont Foot 63.
Bernardoni hasn’t played in France since the 2022-23 campaign, making 27 Ligue 1 appearances for Angers SCO on that occasion. In his lengthy career, the man born in Évry, France, has collected over 150 caps in the French top-flight with stops at Troyes, Girondins de Bordeaux, Nîmes Olympiques, Angers and AS Saint-Étienne.
In August 2023, he left for the Turkish Süper Lig, signing at Konyaspor. That proved to be an uneventful stay for the Frenchman, who only featured in 17 league contests for them before his move to Switzerland in January 2024. In total, he made 20 appearances in the Swiss Super League for Yverdon-Sport.
Amiens finished 11th in the Ligue 2 table last season with 43 points, just one more than AC Ajaccio, who were relegated due to financial difficulties.
In 2016, Bernardoni was a part of the French team that captured the UEFA European U-19 Championship in Germany, a tournament which saw Kylian Mbappé (25) score five times. Bernardoni was in goal for the final of that competition against Italy in a match that France won 4-0.
Amiens begin the new Ligue 2 campaign on August 11 when they welcome Stade de Reims to Stade de la Licorne.
