Oaktree Capital are not planning on selling Inter Milan until after they have finished constructing a new stadium.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that the North American fund are in it for the long haul and see the stadium as a priority.
It came as something of a surprise when Oaktree Capital decided to take permanent control of Inter last spring.
Reports had long suggested that the North American fund had little interest in running the Nerazzurri.
Rather, in the event of former Inter owners Suning defaulting on their debt to Oaktree, the fund would simply repossess the club and then immediately sell it for a profit.
But that has not been the case. Rather, Oaktree have taken control of Inter, running the club for the better part of a year now.
And according to Tuttosport, the North American fund aren’t planning to sell the club any time soon.
As Tuttosport note, the financial situation at Inter is looking better than it has in quite some time.
The Nerazzurri reduced losses to €36 million last fiscal year. And they could conceivably break even in the one ongoing.
Meanwhile, Tuttosport note, Inter recorded record revenues of €473.2 million last fiscal year.
That is a testament to success on the pitch as well as the club’s strategy off it.
That does not mean that everything is rosy at Inter on a financial level. There is still the substantial debt bond for club owners Oaktree to navigate.
But considering the positive trend, Tuttosport report, Oaktree see little reason not to stick around.
The North American fund are confident that the value of Inter as an asset will only increase.
The ultimate goal is the construction of a new stadium. That is a longstanding goal for both Inter and AC Milan.
If the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri can finally finish construction on a new stadium, it would massively increase their revenue-generating capacity.
This would naturally see Inter’s value as an asset skyrocket. And it could be at this point that Oaktree consider making a sale.
