While it may not be a surprise to many given Borussia Dortmund’s current form, the club has confirmed the sacking of head coach Nuri Sahin.
The Turkish trainer’s departure comes after Dortmund’s worst Bundesliga performance in a decade, leaving them in tenth place with seven wins, seven losses and four draws, with an uphill battle for Champions League qualification. Dortmund’s last win came away from home in Wolfsburg on December 22, while the previous win came nearly a month earlier.
Sahin’s sacking comes after amid much scrutiny from the fans. In addition, it’s become a consensus that many of BVB’s best players have underperformed under Sahin’s tenure. The tactical systems have been erratic and constantly changing, leaving players appearing confused at times, and the results have reflected it. Unfortunately, Nuri Sahin’s tenure never materialized into a strong run of form, though he might be remembered for the 7-1 drubbing of Celtic.
Until the Black and Yellows appoint a proper successor, Under-19 coach, Mike Tullberg will take charge of the senior squad on an interim basis and the club has confirmed Tullberg will be on the sidelines against Werder Bremen Saturday.
Mike Tullberg has coached the U-19 squad since 2020, previously spending a season with the reserve squad. The Danish coach has recently been linked with a move away from the club, but the Black and Yellows should be happy to have his services, at least in the short term; he has experience with the young players, but this weekend will be given the opportunity to lead the senior squad.
