The first fans gathered at the Hohenbuschei training ground a few hours before the training session began. As many as 500 supporters turned up to watch the session and support their team in the battle for European qualification. The training ground quickly reached maximum capacity.
Emre Can (interview), Carney Chukwuemeka and Jamie Gittens were not on the pitch, but trained individually, as did Maximilian Beier, who has been out injured recently. Nico Schlotterbeck was also at the training ground to continue his rehab programme.
The first Borussia players to take to the pitch were Niklas Süle and Karim Adeyemi. During the warm-up that followed, all the players were greeted with applause. This was followed by a circle game before the fans were treated to a goalscoring drill.
The Black & Yellow fans are hoping for more goals on Sunday. Five wins from the last six games and 16 of a possible 18 points have seen BVB climb to fifth place, which would entitle them to participate in the UEFA Europa League. Fourth place, which brings with it a place in the UEFA Champions League, is currently occupied by SC Freiburg, who are just one point ahead. Borussia Dortmund will be looking to pick up more points in their final two matches of the season (on Sunday in Leverkusen and next week at home to Kiel) and thus climb further up the table. The Black & Yellows know they can count on the support of their fans. (cr)
