Manchester City transfer bosses are reportedly keeping one eye on Nottingham Forest and England international Morgan Gibbs-White, according to reports.
The midfielder has become the latest in a long line of names to be linked with transfer interest from the Etihad Stadium, as Manchester City recruitment bosses look to prepare themselves for a summer of significant change.
With a number of first-team stars widely expected to be entering their final months and years at the club due to age and contract positions, Manchester City are lining up potential options for the next phase of the club’s development.
The club have also secured themselves significant funding to reinvest into their first-team picture from next summer, with over £130 million in funding arriving into the club through player sales, buy-clauses in loan deals, and sell-on clauses across the recent summer.
And while much of the club’s top-level investments will likely come from elsewhere in the European game, the latest report has linked Manchester City with interest in a profile much closer to home.
According to the information of HITC journalist Graeme Bailey, Premier League champions Manchester City are ‘keeping close tabs’ on Nottingham Forest midfielder, Morgan Gibbs-White, and have been ‘compiling a detailed dossier’ on the Englishman.
It is suggested that the scouting network within the Premier League champions are ‘huge admirers’ of Gibbs-White, who is known to be a close friend of Manchester City superstar, Phil Foden.
However, it is clarified that Nottingham Forest are ready to hold talks with the 24-year-old about a new contract at the City Ground, and the club would like to keep the midfielder at the club via a ‘substantial pay-rise’ given his new status as an England international.
It is the first time that Morgan Gibbs-White has been linked with interest from Manchester City, but the player knows the club well and particularly close family friend and England international teammate, Phil Foden.
Speaking in March 2023, the Forest star revealed, “I’m godparent to his (Phil Foden’s) kids. They’ve got two beautiful, funny kids. We just had a good connection. I met him at 16, we just got on.”
He continued, “Our girlfriends are close. We roomed together quite a bit. He’s always been a nice kid. Unbelievable player. He’d play Fortnite until one or two o’clock in the morning every night!
“Every night. I’d say that if he scored tomorrow then he could stay on it for another couple of hours.”
Even if Manchester City were to solidify any interest in Gibbs-White in the future, it is highly likely that Nottingham Forest would look to secure a fee in excess of their club record sale, which currently stands at around £47.5 million from Brennan Johnson’s move to Tottenham.
