This afternoon, the decision of the First Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body regarding Crystal Palace’s exclusion from the 2025/26 Europa League was announced.
Nottingham Forest will replace the winners of the last FA Cup, and Crystal Palace will therefore play in the Conference League.
The situation is different for Lyon: following their readmission to Ligue 1, confirmation has also arrived that the French team will play in the Europa League.
Here is the UEFA statement: “The First Chamber of the CFCB initiated proceedings against Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais due to a potential conflict with the timeshare rules set out in Article 5 of the UEFA Club Competition Regulations.
On 9 July 2025, the appeal body of the French financial control authority (DNCG) decided not to relegate Olympique Lyonnais to Ligue 2.
Following the CFCB’s assessment of all other relevant conditions included in the settlement agreement, Olympique Lyonnais will not be excluded from the 2025/26 UEFA club competitions.
The First Chamber of the CFCB continued its assessment of the documentation submitted by Olympique Lyonnais and Crystal Palace and concluded that the clubs had breached, as of 1 March 2025, the timeshare criteria set out in Article 5.01 of the UEFA Club Competition Regulations.
For this reason, and In accordance with the provisions set out in Articles 5.02, 5.03, and 5.04 of the UEFA Club Competition Regulations, the First Chamber of the CFCB has decided:
• To accept the admission of Olympique Lyonnais to the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League;
• To refuse admission of Crystal Palace to the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League and to accept admission of Crystal Palace to the 2025/26 UEFA Conference League.
This decision may be appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, pursuant to Articles 62 and 63 of the UEFA Statutes.
