The Tricky Trees are now in negotiations with the player’s representatives to reach an agreement on personal terms.

Steve Cooper’s side managed to secure Premier League survival last season but they were battling relegation for the majority of the campaign.

The Welsh boss will aim to perform better this term by making some smart acquisitions in the transfer window.

Forest have already signed Chris Wood, Ola Aina, Anthony Elanga and Matt Turner but are now looking to add a midfielder.

They believe Fofana to be an ideal option and are ready to part with a hefty sum to secure his services.

The France international joined Monaco from Strasbourg in 2020 and has been one of the key members of their team over the years.

The 24-year-old has made over 140 appearances in all competitions for the Red and Whites so far, registering three goals.

Last season, he featured in 36 Ligue 1 games for the French outfit, averaging an impressive 2.3 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 0.9 clearances per game (as per Whoscored).

Fofana mainly plays in central midfield but he can also be used as a defensive midfielder as well as a right midfielder.

He has proven his skills in France and is now set to make a step up by moving to the Premier League, although he may take some time to adapt to the intensity of the English league.
