Since his arrival at FC Barcelona, Hansi Flick has been able to get the best out of a lot of players in the team, either young or old.
The performances of youngsters like Pau Cubarsi, Lamine Yamal, and Marc Casado are naturally exciting to the fans, but veterans like Raphinha, Inigo Martinez, and Robert Lewandowski are also playing at a higher level under the German tactician.
This is particularly the case for the Polish striker, who, with 29 goals in 30 appearances, is having his best season in a Blaugrana shirt. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, his performances have also been recognized in his native country, where the outlet Pilka Nozna awarded him with the ‘Footballer of the Year’ award, for the twelfth time in his career.
Although he was unable to travel to collect this award personally, he still appeared live to answer some questions. One such question that he had to face was regarding his future amidst the Saudi Arabian interest, and he made it clear that he is thinking only about Barcelona at the moment:
“I feel very good at Barcelona, not only within the club but also among the fans. I feel it every day—at the stadium, in the streets. I’m really happy where I am and with the club I play for. I’m not thinking about anything else, and probably nothing will happen regarding this matter.”
Furthermore, when asked about his age, the Barcelona striker said he was hoping to maintain his current level for years to come:
“I’m not ashamed, and I don’t see any problem with being 37 years old. Physically, I have no fear, but everything depends on how things go. Today, I have a smile on my face, I’m eager to play on the green fields, and I want to win more. As long as my heart tells me it’s worth it, I will keep going.”
Hopefully, this will be the case and the Pole will be able to maintain his current form for years to come. However, he is already close to turning 37 years old, and Barcelona will still have to look for another quality striker to rotate or replace him with.
