The Canaries made the decision to sack David Wagner in May after their 4-0 loss to Leeds United in the play-off semi-final second leg, and Thorup has been named as his replacement.

Thorup had been in charge of FC Nordsjaelland since January 2023, and he led the club to a fourth-placed finish in the Danish Superliga last season, but they were unable to secure European football.

The 35-year-old has brought in one new signing so far this summer, with defender Jose Cordoba arriving from Bulgarian side Levski Sofia, and he is unlikely to be Norwich's only new addition of the transfer window.

A number of senior players have left the club at the end of their contracts, including Jon McCracken, Ben Gibson, Danny Batth, Dimitris Giannoulis and Sam McCallum, while Vicente Reyes has joined Cambridge United on loan, and Christos Tzolis has completed a permanent move to Fortuna Dusseldorf.

The Canaries begin their season with a trip to face newly-promoted Oxford United on Saturday 10th August, and as the countdown to the new campaign continues, we rounded up all the latest news from Carrow Road.

David Wagner in line for management return

Wagner may only have been out of work for just over a month after leaving Norwich, but he could be set to make a swift return to management.

According to reports in Korea (via the Pink Un), Wagner is one of the candidates to become the new manager of the South Korea national team, and he is expected to hold further talks about the role over the coming days.

South Korea have been without a manager since the departure of Jurgen Klinsmann, who was sacked in February after just under a year in charge following his side's disappointing AFC Asian Cup exit.

Abu Kamara interest

Norwich winger Abu Kamara starred during his loan spell at Portsmouth last season to help John Mousinho's side win the League One title, and the Canaries are facing a big decision over his future this summer.

Mousinho has already made it clear that he would like to bring Kamara back to Fratton Park if he becomes available, but he believes Thorup will want to assess the 21-year-old in pre-season.

"Abs has been away with the England under-20s, and had a massive impact there in the couple of games they’ve played," Mousinho told The News.

"I’m assuming the new manager at Norwich will want to have a proper look at him before making a decision.

"You never know, we’ll certainly be there if anything develops from Norwich’s standpoint.

"We know Abs was excellent for us last season, but you never know what Norwich have in the building, what they’re planning to bring in or what profiles they’re looking for.

"From our point of view if Abu becomes available, we’ll be there. So we’ll keep in contact and go from there."

It seems as though Portsmouth are not the only club keen on Kamara this summer as, according to Football Insider, he is attracting interest from Belgian side Anderlecht, who are believed to have been long-term admirers of the winger.

However, Kamara's suitors could be set for disappointment as Norwich are reportedly "determined" to keep hold of him, and Thorup is known for giving young players a chance, so he could have a big role to play for the Canaries next season.

Lewis O'Brien stance revealed

Journalist Alan Nixon claimed on Sunday that Norwich and Luton Town are both interested in signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien on loan.

O'Brien joined Forest from Huddersfield Town along with team-mate Harry Toffolo in a deal reportedly worth £10 million in the summer of 2022, but he has struggled to establish himself at the City Ground, and he spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough.

The 25-year-old provided one assist in 25 appearances in all competitions during an injury-disrupted campaign for Boro last season, and while clubs are keen to bring him in on loan this summer, Forest are said to prefer a permanent exit.
