Manchester City and Norwich City are working on a late deal that will see a new midfielder arrive at Carrow Road on deadline day, according to reports.

That concerns the future of highly-rated Manchester City Academy graduate Jacob Wright, who was on the verge of signing for Championship side Swansea City on an initial loan deal with a view towards a future £4 million permanent switch to South Wales.

However, following a late turn of events and despite the midfielder visiting the club over the course of the weekend, the Swans have not finalised a deal for the player leaving the youngster searching for an alternative option with just hours remaining in the winter window.

Having missed Manchester City’s trip to North London and the eventual 5-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon too, Wright and those representing the teenager have been able to assess their options with a move to Carrow Road now emerging.

According to initial reporting from the Manchester Evening News’ Simon Bajkowski, Championship side Norwich City have now emerged as the favourites to sign Manchester City’s Jacob Wright on deadline day.

Follow-up details courtesy of the Pink Un’s Connor Southwell has revealed that the Canaries are looking to reach an agreement with the Premier League champions over a loan-to-buy deal for the 19-year-old defensive midfielder.

Jacob Wright came close to leaving Manchester City on a loan deal during the last summer transfer window, but ultimately opted against the idea in favour of experience playing and training alongside Pep Guardiola’s squad for a season.

Speaking on the matter during an interview in October, Wright explained, “There was obviously temptation – there always is going to be – but when Pep Guardiola and staff around him want you to stay and be around that first team there’s not much of a choice.

“There’s no temptation any longer when you get information they want you to stay and be around because they see you as someone that could be around it. The temptation went out the window as soon as I heard that.”
