Simone Inzaghi is keen to have Inter Milan continue to build on and consolidate their advantage in Serie A next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper reports that the coach wants to continue to evolve the style of play.

Inter did not just win the Serie A title last season. They did so in utterly dominant fashion.

As Napoli had done in the previous campaign, the Nerazzurri amassed a gap over second place that meant that they had effectively wrapped up the title in March.

Nineteen points separated Inter from their city rivals AC Milan who were second in the table.

Therefore, the expectation will undeniably be that Inter head into next season as favourites to win the title again. It couldn’t be otherwise.

But in the meantime, Inter’s big rivals have reacted. They now know exactly how big the gap is, and the need to work proactively to make it up.

In the case of Juventus, they have brought Thiago Motta in as coach. And they’ve shown a willingness to spend big on a new project.

Meanwhile, it is a similar story at Napoli. The Partenopei are ready for an ambitious transfer window to support Antonio Conte following a shocking title defense last season.

Then, there are the likes of AC Milan, Lazio, and Atalanta all ready to nip at Inter’s heels.

No Resting On Laurels – Inzaghi Wants Inter To Consolidate & Build In Serie A

For Inter, the aim this summer is much different than for clubs like Juventus and Napoli.

The Nerazzurri already enjoy a big advantage in the table. And they know that their rivals are doing some very eye-catching work to try and erase it.

The question, therefore, is what Inter will try and do to keep their spot on top.

Napoli’s disastrous title defense last season was a devastating reminder of just how fast a team can fall from a dominant position.

But Inzaghi believes that Inter can be even better next season. They’re capable of matching the improvements of teams like Juventus and Napoli.

In the transfer market, Inter have already secured deals for the likes of Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski, and Josep Martinez.

These arrivals should give the Nerazzurri additional strength in depth compared to last season.

The improvements may not be as drastic as those of some of their rivals. But these signings show Inter are still in search of more of an edge.

Then, in terms of the style of play, the changes will likewise be less drastic than those at Juventus, Napoli, or Milan under new coaches.

But Inzaghi is aiming to continue a path of evolution that has been important.

Last season’s dominant title victory was a kind of culmination of three seasons of tactical growth at Inter under Inzaghi.

The coach’s 3-5-2 became more versatile than ever. Players in every position were able to make decisive attacking contributions.

This made Inter confusing to defend. Their attacking ideas seemed to be one step ahead of their opposition’s defensive plans at all time.

Therefore, Inzaghi is hoping to keep this trajectory going.

Inter know that the arrivals of top coaches like Motta, Conte, and Foseca on the benches of major rivals can be a threat to them.

But those coaches will need time to implement their ideas. And Inzaghi has a three-year head start.
