Newcastle United have suffered several setbacks in their bid to reinforce their attack this summer.

They have failed in their attempts to sign Anthony Elanga, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

The latest transfer blow came yesterday as Chelsea agreed to sign Brighton & Hove Albion star Joao Pedro for more than £50 million.

However, Chelsea’s swoop for Pedro opens the door for Newcastle to sign West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus, and they must capitalise.

According to the Guardian, Chelsea were considering a move for Kudus, but the Pedro transfer means the Hammers are now expecting offers from elsewhere.

Newcastle should be at the front of the queue. They previously showed interest in the former Ajax star but never followed up with an offer.

Like Pedro, Kudus is versatile and can fit into several positions.

He broke out as a box-to-box midfielder and has shone in England as a winger. He has played as a centre-forward for his national team.

Kudus took the Premier League by storm in his first season, recording 18 goals and 10 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

He bagged only five goals and four assists in 34 games this term, but still showed glimpses of his ability.

His combination of fearless dribbling, drive, and finishing will make him a weapon for Newcastle.

Kudus is a Swiss army knife that can fill any position and deliver the goods. His knack for rising to the occasion in big matches would be a massive plus for the Magpies.

The 24-year-old is young, hungry, and has room to grow. He has already demonstrated his ability to adapt to the pace and intensity of English football.

Chelsea’s decision not to pursue Kudus could be a blessing in disguise for Newcastle.
