Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff could leave the club in the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies could be willing to listen to offers for the 27-year-old.

Newcastle’s sporting director, Paul Mitchell, has been tasked with improving the club’s financial situation, and one of the easy options is to ship out homegrown players.

The Magpies sold Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson last summer to comply with the Premier League’s financial rules, and they need to do so again in January.

Longstaff has made eight starts this season, while a further six appearances have come off the bench.

Newcastle United should look to sell fringe players out

The financial situation is very frustrating for manager Eddie Howe, but Newcastle will have to deal with it.

The Magpies have extended Longstaff’s contract by one year until 2026, which protected his value.

While Newcastle can still sell him in the summer window, the club hierarchy feels that they will get better value for money in January.

Since progressing from the club’s youth academy, Longstaff has made 199 appearances in all competitions, scoring 16 goals.

He will be a valuable addition to any Premier League side, and clubs battling at the bottom could consider acquiring him.

The Magpies should also consider selling some of their fringe players. Miguel Almiron has barely played this season, and he should be sold if Saudi Pro League clubs make a good offer.

Callum Wilson is another player who could be sold, but he is expected to be out for two months after picking up an injury.

Newcastle are 12th in the Premier League table with 20 points, and Howe badly needs help to rebuild the squad.
