Newcastle open talks to sign England goalkeeper | OneFootball

Newcastle United have opened talks with Southampton over a deal to sign Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsdale has emerged as the club’s leading alternative after missing out on the signing of James Trafford, who is set to rejoin Manchester City from Burnley.

The 27-year-old joined Southampton from Arsenal last summer but was unable to prevent the club’s relegation from the Premier League. He has a relegation release clause in his contract of around £20m.

Sky Sports have confirmed the approach from Newcastle, who are keen to bring in competition for Nick Pope. Ramsdale wants the move to St James’ Park as he looks to keep alive his England ambitions ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Newcastle are active in the transfer market as the Magpies also look to bolster their attacking options. An approach for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is in motion, while the club hold interest in Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.

The Magpies are expecting to receive a formal offer from Liverpool for Alexander Isak this week. The Swedish striker has requested to explore a move away this summer.
