Although FC Barcelona had not been able to bring in many new reinforcements for Hansi Flick in the last two transfer windows, the Blaugranes have still been working to ensure the German retains a strong squad in the coming years by finalising the renewals of some of their most important players.
The Catalans have already renewed the contracts of Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Gavi, Pau Cubarsi, and Inigo Martinez since the start of the year, and there are several more players whom they want to renew in the coming weeks and months.
One such player is the winger Lamine Yamal, who is going to turn 18 this summer, and signing his first professional contract is an absolute priority at the Barcelona offices. The two parties are already in agreement about most aspects of this new contract, which is expected to make the Spaniard one of the best-paid players in the squad.
However, there were doubts about the Blaugrana club’s ability to register such a big new contract, especially since La Liga put it outside of the 1:1 rule because it stopped counting income from the VIP boxes.
But now, as SPORT has reported, the authorities have put forward a set of new financial rules in a media briefing in Madrid, which can help Barcelona in this regard, and in sealing the continuity of its youth talent in general.
One such rule is related to players under the age of 24, as a new clause allows their renewal even without the required margin in the salary cap. But for this new rule to apply, a player must have been registered for the last three consecutive seasons with the same club, a condition that holds true in Yamal’s case.
However, any club taking advantage of this clause will have to compensate for the salary excess in the same financial year, and if it is unable to do so, this excess will be subtracted from its limit for the following season.
Another major change in the rules is the ability to get up to 3 players, 1 new transfer signing and 2 free agent signings, provisionally registered on temporary visas, even if they exceed the salary cap. But these registrations will be valid only for 1 year, and a club will have to manage its finances to ensure its permanent registration within this time.
Furthermore, the famous 1:4 and 1:3 rules have also been relaxed, and the penalised clubs will now be able to spend up to 60% of their income on new transfers, and 70% in case they bring in a franchise player, i.e., a player who becomes one of the highest earners in the team.
