The Sky Blues have shown an interest in signing Blackburn captain Lewis Travis this summer.

Coventry City may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis.

Football League World exclusively revealed that the Sky Blues had joined the race for the midfielder last month, as they prepare to mount another push for promotion to the Premier League during the 2025/26 campaign.

Championship newcomers Wrexham were linked with a move for Travis earlier this summer, as per Alan Nixon, before Football League World also exclusively revealed that former Blackburn boss John Eustace was keen on reuniting with the 27-year-old at Derby County.

The Red Dragons' interest in Travis was believed to have cooled midway through June, leaving Derby as the apparent frontrunners in the race for his signature, but with Coventry now in the mix as well, there could well be a transfer battle between the two clubs.

Blackburn have reportedly identified a new midfield target of their own as Valerien Ismael looks to shape his squad ahead of his first full season at Ewood Park, which could open the door for Coventry to swoop for Travis.

Blackburn bolstered their squad with the signing of Portuguese midfielder Sidnei Tavares from Primeira Liga side Moreirense last month, with the deal reportedly being worth up to £2 million, as per Alan Nixon.

Now, Rovers have registered an interest in defensive midfielder Nectarios Triantis, according to Scottish journalist Scott Burns of the Daily Record via their live transfer blog (June 30, 2:39pm).

The 22-year-old has spent the last season-and-a-half on loan at Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian, and he could be available this summer following his parent club Sunderland's promotion to the Premier League.

With Blackburn eyeing up a move for a combative midfielder in Triantis, having already strengthened in the middle of the pitch with the addition of Tavares, it could mean that they are open to selling Travis this summer.

If Rovers bring in a ready-made replacement for Travis, it could clear the path for Coventry to make a move for the Blackburn captain.

Coventry could face a battle to sign Travis

If Blackburn complete the signing of Triantis and are willing to negotiate a deal for long-serving midfielder Travis to leave the club, it would seemingly make sense for Coventry to be a more desirable destination than Derby.

The Rams narrowly avoided relegation to League One last season, while the Sky Blues reached the play-offs in the second tier as they continue to chase promotion to the top flight of English football.

However, Travis' decision-making process may not be as straightforward as joining whichever club is most likely to win promotion to the Premier League next season.

The BBC reported earlier this year that the 27-year-old was 'very close' to current Derby boss John Eustace during their time together at Blackburn, so he could be tempted to link up with his former head coach at Pride Park.

There is no doubt that Blackburn's intention to make another addition in midfield is positive news for Coventry considering their interest in Travis, but it will be interesting to see whether the player opts for a move to the CBS Arena if both the Sky Blues and the Rams have offers accepted.
