Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries doesn’t feel that strikers Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic “flopped” against Young Boys.

Speaking to GianlucaDiMarzio.com, via FCInterNews, the Dutchman reacted to yesterday’s Champions League win. He also admitted that the synthetic pitch is “hard to get used to.”

Yesterday evening, Taremi and Arnautovic started in attack for Inter against Young Boys.

This is not the first time this season that the two experienced strikers led the line for the Nerazzurri in the Champions League.

Taremi and Arnautovic had also started against Red Star Belgrade earlier this month.

And the pair had a very impressive match on that occasion. Both scored their first goal of the season for Inter, while Taremi picked up two assists.

Meanwhile, Iranian international Taremi had also started against Manchester City in Inter’s Champions League opener.

Yesterday, though, Taremi and Arnautovic didn’t find it nearly as easy as they had against Red Star.

Inter were not able to find the back while the duo were on the pitch.

Moreover, Arnautovic was guilty of missing a penalty at the start of the second half.

The former West Ham United and Bologna striker’s effort was too central, making it easy for Young Boys keeper David van Ballmoos.

In the end, it was the introduction of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram that saw Inter take three points.

Thuram was the scorer of Inter’s stoppage time winning goal.

Asked if he thinks that Taremi and Arnautovic “flopped,” Nerazzurri wingback Dumfries said that “I don’t agree.”

“Arnautovic and Taremi did very well in my opinion,” the Dutchman said. “Especially in terms of passing and pressing.”

“It’s not easy for them because they don’t have the match rhythm that you can only get by playing often,” Dumfries added.

The 28-year-old said of the late win that “We fought until our last breath.”

“All in all I think we deserved the win,” he said.

“But I want to underline one thing: I have a lot of respect for Young Boys, who made us work very hard for the win.”

“It wasn’t an easy match,” Dumfries admitted. “To be honest, it was tough to play on this pitch.”

“I’ve played on surfaces like this,” the 28-year-old said of Young Boys’ artificial pitch. “But if you don’t do it regularly, it’s hard to get used to the movements on it.”

“And if you do it after not having done in a long time, it’s definitely not easy.”
