Neil Warnock has predicted who he thinks will gain promotion out of League One during the 2025-26 season.
Legendary football manager Neil Warnock has backed Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town and Plymouth Argyle to seal promotion back to the Championship, while he believes Luton Town could be in for another season of struggle.
The new third-tier season gets underway this weekend, with it set to be another enthralling campaign of action.
Cardiff, Plymouth and Luton have all dropped down to League One and will be aiming to make it immediately back to the Championship, while previous Premier League outfits in Huddersfield and Bolton Wanderers will be hoping it is there time to taste success.
Meanwhile, the likes of Stockport County, Leyton Orient and Wycombe Wanderers will be looking to avenge their defeats in the play-offs last season and go one step further to achieving their ambitions.
League One proves to be such a competitive league this season, with many twists and turns expected along the way during the 46-game bonanza.
With this in mind, Neil Warnock, who has managed the most games in English football, has issued his thoughts over who can make it back to the Championship this upcoming campaign.
Speaking on the TalkSPORT Breakfast Show (from 1:40) with Alan Brazil and Dean Saunders, Neil Warnock has outlined his predictions for the 2025-26 League One season, believing the trio of Huddersfield Town, Plymouth Argyle and Cardiff City can all win promotion back to the Championship.
Brazil said: “What about League One then, let’s move on, Cardiff, Huddersfield in League One.
Warnock responded: “And Plymouth, those three, the three teams that came down, Cardiff, Huddersfield, Plymouth, you can’t look beyond them.
When asked about Luton’s chances, Warnock added: “I just don’t sense it me, really.
“I think Stockport can have a good year, I think they’re building properly.
“With Luton, I hope they do (win promotion). It is a lovely club, but the way they’ve just plummeted really.”
Neil Warnock may have got himself mixed up with the teams that came down from the Championship last season, but he’s right in thinking the likes of Huddersfield Town have a chance of gatecrashing the automatic promotion places.
It’s hardly a surprise to see Warnock favour both Huddersfield and Cardiff given his previous affiliations to both clubs as manager too. Huddersfield should be firmly in the mix given the Terriers have added Alfie May to their forward line, but there could be some fear for Cardiff City as the Bluebirds have only signed one player during the summer transfer window so far.
Meanwhile, Plymouth Argyle have a promising coach in Tom Cleverley to work with and are expected to be in the hunt for promotion, while Stockport County are on an upward trajectory and could go one step further under Dave Challinor.
