West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd has landed in Marseille ahead of a move to Les Phocéens on deadline day, being photographed with Marseille superfan Titi Le Boss this morning at Marignane Provence Aiport. The Morocco defender is set to join the club on a five-year deal in a permanent transfer worth €23m. The experienced defender is set to return to Ligue 1 having previously played for Dijon and Stade Rennais, the latter of which he left for West Ham in 2022. Aguerd spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad, and despite returning to the fold under Graham Potter for the ongoing campaign, the centre-back has been earmarked for a move away.
Marseille have been in need of defensive reinforcements, despite having signed CJ Egan-Riley on a free transfer from Burnley FC and Facundo Medina on loan from RC Lens (although the Argentine is currently injured, but is expected to return to the team following the international break).
Marseille will look to spend €23m to bring in Aguerd on a five-year contract. Roberto De Zerbi will hope that the Moroccan international will help bring some much-needed calm to a defence that has looked very shaky in the opening three matches.GFFN | George Boxall
