Tottenham Hotspur reached the Carabao Cup semi-final after beating Manchester United 4-3 on Thursday night.
Spurs went 3-0 up with less than half an hour to go, but they pressed the self-destruction button once again to allow the Red Devils to stage a strong comeback.
Dominik Solanke scored twice, while Dejan Kulusevski and Heung-min Son also got their names on the scoresheet.
Solanke was terrific for Spurs, and he was heavily praised by the media for his impressive performance.
The Daily Mail gave him a 9/10 rating, saying he left ‘[Lisandro] Martinez for dead for his second’ and has put in a fantastic shift. Solanke was also given 9/10 by football.london.
BBC Sports described Solanke as ‘outstanding’ for his well-taken brace.
Tottenham were excellent for most of the game, but they nearly embarrassed themselves with a shocking second-half performance.
It almost beggars belief that any side from a position of complete superiority can regularly go into such panic mode in an embarrassing fashion.
They were in complete control after 54 minutes and ended up in danger of a painful downfall. Even after Son’s fourth goal, they still allowed United to score one more, setting up tense final seconds.
Postecoglou reminded everyone after the game that they were missing ten players, so they could not rotate like other clubs.
He said: “I still can’t get away from the fact this group of players is doing an unbelievable job. We had ten players unavailable for one reason and another.
“We can’t rotate like other clubs. The current situation is incredible.”
Spurs are missing several key players in defence, including goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, and full-backs Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies.
Archie Gray joined Tottenham from Leeds United in the summer transfer window, and he is proving to be a terrific addition for the club.
The youngster has played in multiple positions for Spurs this season and has shown maturity beyond years while playing at the back alongside Radu Dragusin.
Senior journalist Henry Winter hailed him as having an ‘elite mentality’, saying he takes responsibility for whichever position he plays.
Spurs will face Liverpool in the two-legged semi-final clash in January. Arsenal meet Newcastle United in the other semi-final tie.
