Nectarios Triantis has opened up on his Sunderland future while on loan with Scottish side Hibs
Nectarios Triantis has made clear his stance on his Sunderland future amid his change in position during his loan stint with Scottish side Hibernian.
The defender is enjoying a positive time in the Scottish Premiership, cementing himself as a key part of David Gray’s first team squad.
Triantis has made 19 appearances in the league since making the temporary switch in the summer, and has even excelled while playing in midfield.
The 21-year-old has yet to make a breakthrough at Sunderland, having joined the Black Cats in the summer of 2023.
Triantis has opened up on his plans to become a regular part of the Sunderland team in the future following his impressive displays for Hibs.
He has revealed that the club are constantly keeping tabs on his progress, and that he feels he belongs with the Championship side.
“Sunderland are always checking in and giving me feedback,” said Triantis, via the Sunderland Echo.
“They have been massively supportive with everything.
“I am not surprised to see the side doing so well.
“When you have a group of players who are constantly gathering experience, eventually the young stars will shine.
“I have a lot of love for Sunderland.
“This is my club.
“The aim is to be a consistent feature in red and white one day, but for now, I am focusing on my time with Hibs.”
Sunderland are currently competing for automatic promotion to the Premier League, with the team sitting fourth in the Championship table.
Régis Le Bris’ side drew 0-0 with Burnley on Friday night, which has left them four points adrift of second place Sheffield United after 27 games.
The Wearside outfit have not been in the top flight since 2017, and face competition from Burnley, the Blades and Leeds United for a top two spot.
Next up for Sunderland is a midweek clash against Derby County on Tuesday night in a 7.45pm kick-off.
Triantis didn’t have a clear path into the first team squad in the summer, and a loan move was necessary to get him playing regularly.
This move into midfield is an experiment that’s working well, and could open the door for him to have a similar role with the Black Cats.
If he can continue performing and improving then Le Bris will have to factor that into his future plans.
Adding this string to his bow as a midfielder will make him a versatile asset for any manager to have in their squad, so it’s been a very productive loan spell for Triantis for that, if nothing else.
